Carroll County Receives State Funding for Recreation Projects

Carroll County will receive more than $440,000 to complete upgrades and additions at four parks.

Carroll County will receive $440,685 for recreational projects through the state-funded Program Open Space.

The funding, which is also being awarded to Allegany, Dorchester, Frederick, Garrett, St. Mary's and Washington counties and Baltimore City, will be used for necessary upgrades and additions, according to a Department of Natural Resources news release.

Carroll County will receive:

  • $194,535 to acquire 9.16 acres, adjacent to Winfield Elementary School, to develop Salem Bottom Road Park.
  • $68,400 to replace playground equipment that is more than 20 years old and safety surfacing at Mayeski Park with play equipment consistent with national playground safety standards and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • $60,750 to replace the old chain-link fence that surrounds the entrance of Farm Park. The new fence will be 3,100 feet long, 6 feet high, black, vinyl chain-link with gates.
  • $117,000 to replace backstops and protective outfield and dugout fencing on three ball fields at the Carroll County Sports Complex.

"I am grateful that the creation and maintenance of quality recreational projects is a priority here in Maryland, ensuring that we all have a nearby outdoor area available to unwind, let loose and connect with our natural world," said Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown in a statement.

Nice Improvements, but when will Carroll County join ALL of our neighboring counties such as Frederick, Baltimore and Howard by planning, develop and creating turf fields for our numerous rec programs. Too many man hours and resources are spent on temporary improvements to grass fields that are over used.
