Comment: ‘Maryland Drivers Are Awful’

Patch rounds up the funniest comments on Maryland drivers, some who were recently ranked the worst in the nation.

Who knew Maryland drivers was such a sore subject?

Patch readers went on a full on rant about the subject this week after we published a report ranking Baltimore and DC drivers as the worst in America.

Have more to say about the drivers around here? Don’t hold back! Let it go on our comments section. It’s been cathartic.

Here are some highlights of some of comments readers have shared with us on the issue this week.

“If you want to see really bad drivers, come to Carroll County Maryland.” - David J Iacono

“This is what I've been saying all along. Maryland drivers are awful. Nice to see it recently documented how terrible folks - including I suspect many of you - honestly are on the road. Just do better, for the sake of our kids” -  Tim

“Maryland drivers are supposed to follow the "Keep Right" laws … but many do not, and often what ensues is road rage. I've driven in many parts of the US and overseas and this area is without a doubt one of the worst regarding this matter." -  Ryan

“I live in Baltimore, and they are the worst drivers. They don't use their blinkers. They speed up and block you when you are trying to merge into a single lane. They ride your bumpers and wonder why they hit you when you come to a stop. They have to look at everything on the side of the road. If there is a drop of rain or snow, they drop to 5-10 MPH. They block streets at red lights so you can't turn in or out. They don't thank you when you let them in front of you. I don't get how so many people can be so rude on the road. Common Courtesy goes a long way.” - Jacqueline Magee

“I had a project earlier this year in Mumbai, India. I will never complain about local drivers again.” Steve

“Oh, and all of you stuck in traffic? smile. just give it a try...see how much it improves your mood. or wait until i grin at you like an idiot, and try NOT to smile.” Laura M.

“I'm not a native Marylander. One thing I observed, looooong before moving to this state, is that turn signals are disabled on Maryland cars as soon as they get the license plate slapped on them.” Robin Nicole

Not to sound morbid, but every driver should be in one fairly serious accident - it changes your whole perspective on driviing. I wasn't one to race around before or cut people off, but after that accident, I don't ever feel the need to rush like a maniac when I'm running late. Why? Because the guy who hit me was running late and focused only on that. I was lucky to have not been hurt worse. And the woman who hit my husband? On her cell, frustrated with heavy traffic and having to wait her turn to get into it - pulled out anyway and wham! Both our accidents were caused by people who were too impatient.

why won't the police officers in carroll county enforce the traffic laws on the books, it can't be that hard to do their jobs, can it?
