Commissioners to Decide Fate of English Language Ordinance Today
According to their weekly agenda, the board of County commissioners could vote today on the controversial ordinance.
In their open session today beginning at 1:30 p.m., the board of Carroll County commissioners will discuss and likely vote on the proposed English language ordinance.
In late September, Commissioner Haven Shoemaker proposed making English the official language of Carroll County government. A public hearing was held in December so citizens could offer feedback on the proposed ordinance.
Shoemaker said "this isn't a radical motion", noting that two other Maryland counties have passed similar legislation.
