Crafters Update From The Craft and Hobby Association Show

Patch previews trends in scrapbooking from crafting central.

Usually, I write about creating things, but this week I am taking a detour.

I was fortunate enough that I was able to attend the Craft and Hobby Association Show in Los Angeles this past week. This show is the craft industry's main event where everyone debuts all the new craft products coming to market.

Usually, I do all my ordering from catalogs and sales people, but this year we wanted to expand our horizons.

Traveling away for a week is no fun without someone to travel with, so my three Lisas all traveled with me. We also brought the store mascot, Flat Lisa. She sort of blends into the Hollywood sign in the photo.

A number of our vendors remember and look forward to seeing Flat Lisa at the shows. No kidding. We tend to be a bit silly and sometimes it's nice to not be so serious about business.

Everywhere we looked at the show all we could see was flowers. Almost every paper, embellishment or stamp company had flowers in some form.

Some of the flowers were very realistic. Others were more artsy and handmade.  We learned lots of new ways to make flowers from paper, ribbon, crepe paper and fabric.

There are new tools to roll paper flowers and giant glue circles for making ribbon flowers.  Almost every paper company had patterned paper with flowers, lots of bright colors, pastels, hand drawn flowers and abstract flowers.

Another big trend was vintage patterns and colors. The color pallets were very 1950s as were the patterns. There were dress forms, old fashioned toys, even dress patterns and sewing items. Dress form embellishments and papers looked so fresh.

Spools were everywhere. One company made a beautiful wreath from spools.  So creative.

The trends we saw and purchased were very springy and this is the time of year we can use a little bit of spring. I love receiving all the new bright colors. It makes me think of warmer weather.

All the wonderful things we saw will arrive at Photo Scraps mostly in February and March so you can get a little dose of spring.
