Do Your Part: Turn Off the Lights For Earth Hour
The Worldwide Wildlife Fund encourages people to turn off the lights Saturday night in recognition of Earth Hour.
On Saturday, March 26 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the streets might look a little darker.
The Worldwide Wildlife Fund is encouraging people to turn off the lights for an hour Saturday in recognition of Earth Hour, a stand against climate change.
Major landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and the Golden Gate Bridge usually participate.
Some teachers at Sykesville Middle School had their students turn off the lights in their classrooms for the entire day Friday in honor of the event.
Sykesville students are hoping to spread the word and have more families and community organizations join in, helping with this year’s theme, "Go Beyond the Hour."
Earth Hour is organized by the World Wildlife Federation and was started in Australia in 2007 when a group of citizens and businesses decided to take a stand against climate change.
