Eldersburg and Sykesville Today: Jan. 11

Read these five things to stay on top of local news and get you prepared for the day.

 

1. Women On a Mission Meeting

Women on a Mission, an organization for the business women of the Southern Carroll County area, are hosting their monthly networking luncheon at the Sykesville Pizza Hut at noon today. The meeting will include a presentation, thirty second introductions by those in attendance, one-on-one networking and more. Those attending are encouraged to bring business cards and brochures.

2. I Remember That...

The monthly meeting of "I Remember That...." will take place from 10 a.m. to noon today in the Sykesville Town House. Jim Mathis, Sykesville resident, will discuss growing up in Sykesville at The Strawbridge Home for Boys. The Strawbridge Home was located in Sykesville, now considered Eldersburg, from 1924 to the late 1950's.

3. Board of Education Meeting

The Carroll County Board of Education is holding an open meeting with citizen participation today at 5 p.m. Find more information on the agenda here

4. Children's Book Club

The Eldersburg Library is hosting a book club for 4th and 5th graders featuring the book "Marley: A Dog Like No Other" by John Grogan. Carrolltowne Elementary School's Reading Specialist Mrs. Barnwell and a CCPL children's librarian will hold a discussion of the book and an activity time. Refreshments will be served.

5. Today's Forecast

The National Weather Service calls for cloudy skies with a 50 percent chance of rain this afternoon, changing to a 100 percent chance of rain this evening with a low of around 39 degrees.
