The Board of Carroll County commissioners will hear public comments on the proposed English language ordinance in the county office building on Dec. 11.

The public hearing will take place in room 003 of the county office building on Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.

In late September, Commissioner Haven Shoemaker presented the proposed ordinance to his fellow commissioners, saying that "this isn't a radical motion."

According to Shoemaker, 31 states and two Maryland counties (Frederick and Queen Anne's) have passed similar legislation.

Based on public input during the hearing, the commissioners may amend the proposed ordinance without any further public hearings.

The proposed ordinance may be reviewed and copies obtained at the Office of the County Clerk, Carroll County Office Building, 225 North Center Street, Room 300 during normal business hours.

The proposed ordinance is also available on the county website. Written comments may be addressed to the County Clerk, 225 North Center Street, Room 300, Westminster (sreese@ccg.carr.org) and will be considered if received prior to the close of the hearing according to a government release.

Both oral and written comments may be given at the hearing.
