Exploring Issues in Eldersburg: Carrolltown Mall
What do you think should happen next at Carrolltown Mall?
With the closings of Blockbuster and Peebles leaving two more vacant storefronts in the Carrolltown Center, the question becomes what's next for the former mall?
Now anchored by Big Lots and Kmart, the shopping center has become a less popular place to shop for some, while others prefer the shops located there.
"I thought for sure this would go," said Jenny Lai on Facebook about the Eldersburg Kmart. "I've only been in there twice and there is never anyone there!"
"I like that Kmart better than the Walmart," said Patti Meyer on Facebook. "Seems like Walmart has changed their products and I can't find what I need. I'll be sorry to see it go."
As residents of the community, what do you think should be the next step? What should move in and what renovations do you think need to be done? What does this mean for Eldersburg?

I think the whole area should be leveled. Then put in an "Avenue" type shopping area including a nice movie theater, like the one in White Marsh. It's a very depressing area of the community as it stands now. And since it's right on 26, it's what you see first of Eldwrsburg.

I agree that we need a movie theater in town. It would be also great to have a nice variety of other stores (and not more liquor stores, pizza places, or Chinese restaurants) - maybe a Best Buy or other electronics store, a Michael's/Joann's, etc.

I agree with these comments. Additionally, this area needs a Chik Fil-A.
What about a boycott to force the developers into action?

I've been hearing about the Carrolltowne Mall issue for years. Things just get worse there. What can be done that hasn't already been done to make something happen? The issue seems to go on and on, and we are regularly asked what we think should be done.

I'm up for a boycott. Or whatever it would take. Its not just the fact its run down and cosmetically unappealing. The back of the mall has been used for drug dealings too. The sooner the better.

The most populated area in Carroll County and we must deal with eye sores and poor planning. It's time for Eldersburg to incorporate, stop letting Westminster decide our fate. It's time for Carroll County to move to a Charter Government and stop letting Annapolis decide the County's fate.
