From London Fog Cafeteria To Worship Space, Area Church Makes A Big Move

Life House Sykesville held first service in new space Christmas Eve.

Sometimes dreams really do come true.

Pastor Darrin Spencer and the members of Life House Sykesville didn't only decorate their church space for the Christmas holiday. They have spent the last two months building their worship space, remodeling the former London Fog cafeteria with their own hands.

The new building is more than double the size of their former location in between F&S Cycles and Terry's Tag and Title.

"This gives us space and lets people know that if they come there's going to be enough room for you," said Janet Kelly, member of the congregation. "It's just amazing the things that they have done here in such little time."

On Dec. 24, Life House Sykesville opened its doors to the public for the first time welcoming more than 100 people into the new facility.

"We had a great Christmas Eve celebration and first service in the new space," said Darrin Spencer, pastor and founder of Life House Sykesville.  "We exceeded all expectations, especially since we put all of our available time, talent, and treasure into getting moved into the new building, and next to nothing on advertising."

And this truly was a team effort for the congregation, making "church work nights" a commonplace event instead of hiring a construction team. The church members themselves made the new building come to "life."
