Future of Eldersburg Kmart Uncertain
Sears Holding Corp. announced it will be closing more than 100 stores. The list of which stores will be closing has yet to be announced.
After a disappointing year, Sears Holding Corp. announced Tuesday that it is closing between 100 and 120 Kmart and Sears stores, according to a company statement.
The company has not announced which stores would be closing, stating on its website that the stores would be posted when it the decision is finalized.
A manager at the Eldersburg Kmart store declined to comment on the fate of the Carrolltown Mall location.
The closings will be aimed at “marginally performing” stores, according at an article by the Wall Street Journal.
According to the company's statement, the store closures are expected to generate $140 to $170 million of cash as the net inventory in these stores is sold.

Close Peebles, close K Mart, then tear the whole thing down. The place is going from bad to worse.

I agree, I have been going to this (mall) since I was in High School. and what was a mall has turned into a ghost town of a shopping strip. Put a Target or something useful at this spot. Miss the theater a lot!

Well, Searsholdings just posted a list of 79 of the 100-120 Sears/Kmart stores that are scheduled to close across the country, and the one in Eldersburg is NOT on the list. It appears that they will be closing the Sears Grand in the Chatham shopping center in Ellicott City. No closing date for that store has been indicated yet.
