The Carroll County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that it is continuing the investigation into a bomb threat at Liberty High School this morning.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Crime Scene Technicians, and the Explosive Detection Canine responded to Liberty High School in Eldersburg for a bomb threat. The threat was a written on a wall of the school, according to the release.

Upon their arrival, the building had already been evacuated under the direction of school officials. A thorough search of the building was conducted by Canine Units from both the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police. At approximately 10:53 a.m., the building was reopened to students and staff.

Liberty High School in Eldersburg was evacuated around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday after "threatening graffiti" was found on a wall at the school, according to a school system official.

Carey Gaddis, supervisor of community and media relations for Carroll County Public Schools said that a comprehensive search of Liberty High School was conducted by members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s department and the Maryland State Police. She said no threat or danger was detected and students and staff have re-entered the building. 

"Although it was a very cold morning for all, the safety and security of our students and staff is most important," Gaddis said. 

Gaddis said this is now a criminal investigation.

Gaddis said that school administrators decided to evacuate the school as a safety precaution this morning after "threatening graffiti" was found on a wall at the school.

Notifications were sent to parents of Liberty students to inform them of the situation.
