Liberty High School Names New Basketball Coach

The Lions tap Jay Seaborg as head boys' basketball coach.

Jay Seaborg will be coaching basketball this winter, but he will not be at Century High School.

He is trading his green and gold for the blue and gold of Liberty. He was named the boys' basketball coach for the Lions according to athletic director Ed DeVincent.

Seaborg spent the last four years coaching the girls junior varsity basketball team at Century. He also has led the varsity softball team for the Knights, which he will continue to do.

"I've met with the team to introduce myself and to lay out some of my coaching philosophies for the up coming season," said Seaborg. "This will be the fifth different high school I have coached at so I am familiar with stepping into a program and understand there will be some rough spots during the transition."

Seaborg will replace Steven Johnson, who died in early October. Johnson was the Lions head coach since 2000. He compiled a 101-149 record at Liberty including being county co-champions in 2004. The Lions had six winning season under Johnson.

"I am excited about the upcoming season and am looking forward to building a strong program at Liberty," said Seaborg.

Liberty opens the season on the road at Oakdale in Frederick County on Dec. 5. The Lions play their first home game against Tuscarora on Dec, 7.
