Man Charged in Sykesville Store Assault with Baseball Bat

The incident occurred on Jan. 6 at the High’s Convenience Store in Sykesville.

Troopers with the Maryland State Police State Apprehension Team charged a Sykesville man this morning in an assault and robbery at a Carroll County convenience store on Jan. 6, according to a Maryland State Police press release.

Daryl Lowan Webb, 21, of the 1800 block of Amanda Lane in Finksburg, was arrested without incident at Windsor Mill, a Baltimore County apartment complex.

SAT troopers had been tracking Webb for the past week and believe he was hiding with a friend in the apartment complex.

Troopers served Webb with warrants charging him with armed robbery, first degree assault, second degree assault and theft. Officers with the Sykesville Police Department are also charging Webb on warrants in a similar incident several days prior to the Jan. 6 assault and robbery.

Troopers say they believe Webb acted alone, according to the release.

On Jan. 6, 2012 at about 6:45 a.m., a suspect entered the High’s Convenience Store at 7400 Village Road, Sykesville, and threatened the store clerk verbally. He then used a baseball bat to strike the clerk several times before fleeing the store.

An "alert" citizen, according to police, tackled the suspect as he fled the store, but was unable to detain him.

An undetermined amount of Maryland Lottery scratch-off tickets were stolen. The store clerk was treated and released from Carroll Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Webb was transported to the Carroll County Central Booking Unit and is currently awaiting his initial appearance before a District Court commissioner.
