Patch Poll: Do You Still Have a Landline?

More and more Americans are going cell-phone-only.

According to one recent survey — the National Health Interview of January-June, 2012 — about 36 percent of American households have ditched the landline in favor of using only cell phones. In 2008, that number was more like 20 percent.

"In addition," the report said, "nearly one of every six American homes (15.9%) received all or almost all calls on wireless telephones despite also having a landline telephone."

Do you prefer your landline or at least hold on to it for the rare occasions when your cell service goes out? Or have you joined the millions who have decided they don't really need one?

Tell us in comments if you've abandoned or held on to your land line, and why.

Cellphone reception is terrible at my house, so a landline is still necessary.

I have not had a land line since 2001. I will agree however, there are pockets of Westminster that are cellular dead zones. Anything west of the McDaniel campus on 140, for example. It's almost impossible to get reception around IHOP, and further down towards Roops Mill. Odd since it's pretty elevated there.

Oh yes I do STILL have a landline! You need to if you live in Maryland and have BGE as your power source (or NON power source since they can NEVER quite keep the power ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)!

This is absolutely not true. I have only a cell phone, with an area code in a different state, and I have BGE.
