Photo Gallery: Cut Your Own Tree and Buy Local When Decorating This Christmas
Pine Valley Farms in Sykesville, where Gov. O'Malley purchased his tree last year, is one of many local farms that recently opened for business this Christmas season.
One popular option this Christmas is to grab your saw, your family and maybe your dog and head down to a local tree farm to both support local business and decorate your home for the holiday season.
Pine Valley Farms in Sykesville opened on Nov. 19 and will continue to sell trees until Christmas Eve everyday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The farm has 8,000 Fraser Fir and 8,000 Douglas Fir trees availabe to cut this year and more than 100,000 trees planted for future harvest. Shaking, netting and drilling services are free to those who purchase trees.
In addition, the family run farm operates a snack hut and a store with fresh wreaths and decorations.
Last year, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley purchased his tree from Pine Valley Farms, bringing attention to supporting local farms during the holiday season.
"Buying local trees for the holidays not only keeps Maryland smart, green and growing, but most importantly, keeps our families employed and preserves jobs in our state," said O'Malley during his visit to the farm last year.

Pine Valley Tree Farms is a great family experience. We have enjoyed the experience as part of our family tradition for more than 20 years. From the selection of the perfect tree to the hot cider in the craft barn afterward it is a rewarding unique experience for family and friends. Highly recommended as the place for fresh Christmas Trees and hand made wreaths.
