Remembering ‘Cam’: Popular Eldersburg Boy, 14, Dies of Leukemia

Family and friends are mourning the death of Cameron Lawver, a student at Oklahoma Road Middle School.

A student at , “Cam” was widely known in the community as No. 5 on a variety of youth sports teams.

Now family and friends are mourning the loss of Cameron Lawver, 14, who died Wednesday at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after a long battle with Leukemia.

He was the son of Jeffrey and Carolynn Schneider Lawver of Eldersburg.

Diagnosed in Oct. 2009, Cam and his family have been the subjects of numerous fundraising events in the area, including “Cam-Fest,” a fun run, silent auction and softball tournament through the youth baseball and basketball leagues Cam played on.

Cam played football for the Winfield Cavaliers, baseball for the Sykesville Storm and travel basketball with Freedom.

At the event in November Carolynn Lawver, Cam's mother, told Eldersburg Patch, "It's beautiful. It's a great, great day." Struggling a bit, she added, "(I) just wish it was for something else."

Funeral services will be held March 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephens Reformed Epsicopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cameron Lawver Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o PNC Bank, 1350 Liberty Rd., Sykesville, MD 21784.
