 2.00 &ndash\; Showtime 8:00 pm&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; 2012 G
rammie nominee &ndash\; MPress recording artist Seth Glier will grab you
...if not with his powerful falsetto or his melodic prowess\, then with
what Performer Magazine calls his "intoxicating groove." The 23-year-old
singer\, pianist and guitarist &ndash\; who abandoned studies at The Be
rklee College of Music after one year because he "decided I should be pl
aying for people and not for grades" &ndash\; aims straight for the gut
and has quickly established himself on the national scene performing ove
r 250 shows a year. In 2010\, Glier shared stages with such diverse arti
sts as James Taylor\, Mark Knopfler\, The Verve Pipe\, and Edwin McCain.
He has appeared as a mainstage artist at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival
(NY)\, (where he sold out of all his CD&rsquo\;s) and the Kerrville Fol
k Festival (TX). USA Today recently compared Seth to Bruce Springsteen a
nd Billy Joel and recommended his track "Lauralee" on their "Listen Up P
laylist" (Feb 2011). The only musical member of his family\, Seth was ra
ised on the music of Joni Mitchell\, Martin Sexton and Randy Newman\, bu
t considers his brother to be his greatest influence. "My brother is aut
istic and non-verbal. I learned to communicate with words better once I
realized how to communicate to someone without them."&nbsp\; Maybe the t
erm "old soul" has meaning after all&hellip\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; "The greates
t songwriting since Billy Joel" ~ Livingston Taylor.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\
;&nbsp\; While most kids were playing cops and robbers\, Ryan Hommel was
playing Elvis. Now 23\, while most of his peers are just graduating col
lege and attempting to find their footing in the workforce\, Hommel is a
lready a touring veteran and multi-faceted producer. His unique ability
as a sideman and producer to authentically and emotionally support a son
g\, no matter the genre\, is a skill acquired by "many years of practice
d restraint and patience in music\," says Hommel. "My allegiance is to t
he song\, and that's the most liberating and challenging part of what I
do."&nbsp\; Coming into his own as a solo artist and songwriter\, Hommel
is now hard at work on his debut record - something that puts him in th
e "artist" chair for the first time. "It sort of makes me wish I could s
till get away with dressing up like Elvis 20 years later!"
