Century High School Robotics Team to Compete in World Championships
The Century High School robotics team, the Clockwork Knights, has qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championships, which will be held from April 23-26, 2014 in Anaheim, California. The competition will feature 400 teams from around the world.
The Century team is comprised of approximately 25 students and provides them with real, hands-on experience in the STEM and engineering fields. The team designs, builds, and competes with robots based on a game created by VEX. The team is divided into four sub-teams, including an all-girls team. The girls’ team has participated in seven competitions this year, and has won three Design Awards and a Tournament Finalist Award. The team won the Design Award at the Maryland State Championships, which qualified them for the world championships. This is the first time in the history of Century Robotics that a team has qualified for the World Championships.
The team is seeking financial support from businesses and community members to help with the cost of the trip to Anaheim. Anyone who would like to make a donation is encouraged to contact Mary-Kate Bull, Team Captain, at MKbull35@gmail.com, 443-845-9921, or Buck Ferrin, Team Sponsor, at ceferri@carrollk12.org, 410-387-4400. Donations will not only support one of the few all-girls teams in robotics but will also help students reach a new level of learning, competition, and excellence.
