Icy conditions and high winds forced Maryland Special Olympics to postpone its annual Polar Bear Plunge in the Chesapeake Bay yesterday. However, that didn't stop some local plungers from finding a way to thank supporters for their generous donations.

Around Eldersburg and Sykesville, members of Team EMC suited up and took the plunge in their yards. Together, the team raised more than $19,000 this year to help Maryland Special Olympics provide sports programs for people with intellectual disabilities.

Team EMC was started by Tim and Patti Clyde of Eldersburg. Their youngest daughter, Emily, is a future Special Olympics athlete. In just 3 years, Team EMC has raised more than $55,000. To join Team EMC or make a donation, visit www.team-emc.com.
