Eldersburg residents ordained Catholic priests

Two Eldersburg residents - former Episcopal priests David Reamsnyder and Anthony Vidal - are going to be a part of Catholic history next Saturday when they are ordained
Catholic priests by Baltimore Archbishop William E. Lori.

They and Jason Catania of Baltimore are all affiliated with Mount Calvary Church in Baltimore. In January the three men and the parishioners of Mount Calvary became Catholic.

Now, the men are part of the first ordination class for the new Catholic Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter. Equivalent to a diocese, but national in scope, the ordinariate was created by Pope Benedict XVI this past January for Anglican groups and clergy seeking to become Catholic while retaining elements of their Anglican heritage.

The men are among 30 former Anglican priests being ordained for the ordinariate this summer, in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Iowa, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and other states.
