What Maryland Gun Laws Mean for Buyers: Blog Spotlight

Find out what the exceptions are to the state's new gun law, which is considered "one of the nation's toughest firearm regulations."

Stricter gun control in Maryland went into effect on Oct. 1 but what does that mean for buyers—or those who purchased guns before the new law was enacted?

"If you’re a would-be gun buyer, you can expect more stringent background checks," writes blogger and Annapolis-based attorney Drew Cochran in his post The New Maryland Gun Laws: What They Mean For Gun Buyers. "You will be obliged to submit a fingerprint and undergo gun safety training.

"These requirements apply to new guy buyers only. The Maryland Attorney General has made it clear that those who legally owned and purchased a handgun before October 1 will not be violating the law."
