When Is The First Day of Spring 2014? (Soon, Believe It Or Not)

Weather aside, the calendar says spring is near.

By Todd Richissin

You might not know it from the snow and ice that covered roadways and closed government offices and schools Monday, but the first day of spring 2014 is Thursday, March 20.

So, hang in there.

But keep the gloves at hand. Spring doesn't exactly mean this long, dreadful winter is over, at least as far as the weather is concerned. While the highs in Maryland are forecast for the mid- to upper 50s on Thursday and Friday — and then a high around 62 on Saturday — low temperatures are expected to drop below freezing again next week. Highs will be only in the 40s for much of the state.
