Carroll Hospital Center will name its new community wellness center the "Tevis Center for Wellness" in honor of local business owner Jack Tevis and his wife Beth. The Tevis' donated $1 million to the "Campaign to Cure & Comfort, Always", the hospital's $22 million community fundraising initiative.
Jack Tevis is the president and CEO of S.H. Tevis & Son, Inc. in Westminster. Jack is a third-generation family owner of Tevis Energy, which was founded as Tevis Oil in 1932.
“Beth and I are excited to be part of this new health and wellness center which will benefit so many friends, neighbors, customers and children in our community,” Jack Tevis said in a statement .
The Tevis Center for Wellness will have its main location inside the Dixon Building on Carroll Hospital Center’s campus, which will undergo major renovations beginning next month. Programs of the Tevis Center for Wellness will also be offered throughout Carroll County through partnerships with local businesses, physicians and community organizations.
The new center will feature conference space for healthy living and learning opportunities as well as an expanded library and resources to help the hospital better prevent illness and promote wellness in the community. Services offered through the center will include health screenings, educational programs and support groups, as well as a variety of complementary services including group acupuncture, massage therapy and a wellness boutique. The Tevis Center for Wellness is slated to open in September 2014.
According to a hospital news release, the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation chose to name the Tevis Center for Wellness to honor Mr. and Mrs. Tevis’ long-term support of both the hospital and the foundation. Mr. Tevis is a former chairman of the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation’s Board of Trustees and member of Carroll Hospital Center’s Board of Directors. He was also chairman of “Fulfilling the Promise,” a previous hospital fundraising campaign that secured more than $10 million from the community between 2001 and 2003 to construct a new emergency department, five-story inpatient bed tower, outpatient center and the Carroll Hospice inpatient facility.
In addition to the Tevis Center for Wellness, funds donated through the “Campaign to Cure and Comfort, Always” will also support a new state-of-the-art cancer center to be constructed at Carroll Hospital Center; expanded cardiovascular and stroke services; upgrades in medical and communications technology, and an endowment fund for Carroll Hospice.
