Do You Feel Rich? Maryland is Wealthiest State

Does your salary fit within the state's median income?

By Danna Walker

The national economy isn't getting any better but we may be a bit more immune from trouble in Maryland than most states -- the Free State remains the country's richest state.

Household income remained basically unchanged in 2012, the latest year for such statistics, according to a recent report in USA Today, but residents in states like Maryland make much more than average.

In 2012, Maryland retained its position as the wealthiest state in the country. The median household income was $71,221 compared to $37,095 in the poorest state -- Mississippi.

Nearly 11 percent of households in Maryland earned $200,000 or more last year, the third-highest percentage in the nation, according to the report.
