Eldersburg Man Earns McDonald's 'Crew Person of the Year' Award

Charlie Miller was selected to receive the award out of 35,000 crew employees in the region.

"This award means that I have been recognized for providing quality service with cleanliness and value above and beyond what was expected of me. I have made an effort to be the best employee of McDonalds of Eldersburg I can be, An effort which has been recognized by my employer, who nominated me for this award.
As to where my work ethic comes from, that would be my dad and granddad. I grew up with individuals who would never call out, and would work until the job was done, regardless of how long it took. I can remember being with dad as he worked in his office until late because he had a bid due, and if it wasn't done the company wouldn't get the job, yet he wanted to spend time with me too."

Eldersburg resident Charlie Miller has been named McDonald’s 2012 Crew Person of the Year. The Crew Person of the Year Award honors the top crew member in each of McDonald’s 22 U.S. Regions.

"As to where my work ethic comes from, that would be my dad and granddad," Miller said.  "I grew up with individuals who would never call out, and would work until the job was done, regardless of how long it took."

Miller was born and raised in the Eldersburg area and started to work at the McDonald’s at 1722 Liberty Rd. in August 2006. He is currently a Swing Manager Trainee.

Miller was nominated for his compassionate disposition among his customers and co-workers, according to a news release.

He is often requested by restaurant guests and both restaurant management and the national McDonald’s service center have received feedback from customers praising his work. Charlie displays great dedication to his job “arriving every day to work as if the owner,” and embraces opportunities to expand his responsibilities, the release says.

“We congratulate Charlie on this honor and recognition,” said Gerry Gimelstob, McDonald’s Owner/Operator, in a statement. “He is a polite and selfless person who goes above and beyond what is required of him. He is an invaluable employee and we feel very lucky to have him at McDonald’s.”

When not at work, Miller is an Explorer and Eagle Scout. He volunteers at a Boy Scout Summer Camp and attends Towson University. He has aspirations to become a Middle School History Teacher.

Established in 2002, the Crew Person of the Year award spotlights the contribution that one crew member makes to the business of delivering exceptional customer satisfaction, according to a release.  Miller is one of approximately 35,000 crew members in the Baltimore-Washington Region.

Congrats Charlie, Well deserved! I drive by 5 different McDonalds on my way to work and I always choose the Eldersburg location because the customer service is top notch. Whenever I pay with a debit card in the drive thru Charlie takes a peak at the name on the card and then says "Thank You, Mr. Curran" and "See you next time Mr. Curran." It's a little thing but it always feels brightens up my day! I might only stop there once every couple weeks, but as soon as I saw the headline I knew who it must be referring to. Great job Charlie Miller!

Very well-deserved! Charlie is always friendly, funny, and efficient. He is dedicated to his job, and he is very good at up-selling without being pushy. I think if anyone in Eldersburg mentions the "really nice guy at the McDonald's drive-thru", everyone instantly knows that it's Charlie they are talking about. He's a local celebrity! I'm so glad he got some regional recognition.

Before I clicked on the link, I said to myself, "I sure hope it's that wonderfully kind and enthusiastic guy who works the drive-thru a lot" (I moved away from Eburg awhile back and had forgotten his name). Of course when I saw the picture, I said, "Yup! That's him!" I'm so glad, Charlie, you've been honored for your amazing attitude and work ethic. The world would be SO different if there were more like you. Congrats and keep up the great...everything!
