Aaron Davis has worked his way up the ladder in the health industry and this year the long-time Carroll County resident and local business owner received national recognition for his work. But he's not slowing down, he intends to continue making a difference in the healthcare industry.

Davis began his career in health information systems in 1985.  After decades of working in a variety of positions at several companies, he founded NextLogical Benefit Strategies, located in Westminster, in 2000.

Davis helps clients manage their healthcare benefit programs, offering insights into administrative systems, managed care operations and health information technologies.

In April of this year, Summit Business Media’s Benefits SellingMagazine announced Davis as the 2013 Broker of the Year at the 9th Annual Benefits Selling Expo in San Diego.

Davis describes his reaction to the award as "shock and a deep sense of gratitude."

“What makes the award so special is that we were nominated by our clients and selected by our peers,” Davis said. “The wonderful thing was that our peers understood what we do differently.  NextLogicalhas always been focused clinically on the health risks of our clients’ employees and their families, relying on the expertise of our full-time clinicians.  We are truly blessed to have so many amazing healthcare experts right here in Carroll County who are committed to helping others achieve greater health, fitness and fulfillment.”

Davis said that he loves operating a business in Carroll County, although there are challenges in being located in a more rural setting.

"There’s a tendency we have to sometimes look past local talent believing that the expert from New York City must certainly be smarter than the guy I grew-up with," Davis said. "That said, we’ve been very fortunate to work with some wonderful local firms such as Knorr Brake, Finch Services, Scott Pitrone Sorkin & Jarvis, ADVACO, Carroll County Public Schools and The Spa at Roops’ Mill.  And we’re looking to do a lot more work here."

The bigger hurdles, according to Davis, involve industry-related challenges.

"Without question, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), often referred to as “Obamacare”, takes a lot of our time," Davis said. "Our team spends anywhere from 50 to 80 percent of their time consulting our clients and ensuring that they are in full compliance with the law."

What's next for Davis? NextLogical filed a patent application for a healthcare data analytics tool called Switchbridge which captures ever-changing healthcare data from a variety of sources and helps employers and providers stay in front of the constantly shifting healthcare initiatives.

Davis is also excited to announce that he contributed to a newly released book on healthcare cost containment, titled Cracking Health Costs, written by Tom Emerick and Al Lewis.
