Power Grid: Conserve Electricity During Arctic Blast

What’s worse than the arctic cold spurred on by bitter wind chills that have frozen the region today?

Not having electricity to run furnaces and other essentials.

To keep the lights on, the company that operates the power grid that supplies energy for more than 61 million people in parts of the Mid-Atlantic and elsewhere in the country is calling for the public to conserve electricity Tuesday because of the extreme cold, reports WJLA.com.

PJM Interconnection operates the power grid in all or parts of Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Pennsylvania and other states.

The grid operator asks the public to conserve electricity Tuesday, especially from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the TV station says.

PJM officials say conservation efforts will help ensure adequate power supplies. It says that it is working with state governments and utilities to monitor the situation.
