10 Local Charities to Remember For Tax-Deductible Donations

Consider donating local during the last week to make tax-deductible donations.

It's not just a time to help those in need, it's also the last week to make charitable contributions that can be deducted on this year's taxes.

So here are some great local charities that deserved a check:

  • Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department - The local fire department is in need of donations to help rebuild their facilities that were destroyed by a fire in February of 2010. 
  • Fairhaven - The Eldersburg based continuing care retirement community has several scholarship funds for young students and various projects that need community support.   
  • The J.O.S.H. Foundation - Named after a local young adult killed in a car crash, the local foundation headed by his mother is in need of donations to help construct Maryland's first Angel of Hope Memorial Garden at the South Carroll Senior Center in Sykesville. 
  • The Humane Society of Carroll County - The local humane society is always in need of funds to help care for animals, educate the public about their needs, reunite and adopt as many animals as possible and enforce the laws pertaining to their regulation and humane keeping.
  • TACTICC (The Arts Coming Together In Carroll County) - The local arts program based in Sykesville is in need of donations for their ever-growing arts education programs.  
  • Caring Communities - Caring Communities is a growing, non-profit organization based in Sykesville which provides parents of children with disabilities respite care training and support. 
  • Carroll County Food Sunday - The non-profit organization consists volunteers and members of the community that come together as neighbors helping neighbors by supporting Carroll County residents in meeting their emergency and supplemental food needs.
  • ESCAPE Ministries - The non-profit volunteer organization, supported by area churches and civic groups, coordinates relief assistance to needy families and individuals. 
  • Arc of Carroll County - Provides vocational training, residential services, and counseling to individuals with developmental disabilities. 
  • Carroll County Public Schools Education Foundation - The non-profit foundation encourages community financial support for educational initiatives are not funded in the public school budget, works to improve volunteer opportunities and expands school business partnerships.
