'Art Carts' Contest Winners Announced

The "art carts" will be donated to local elementary schools to promote recycling.

The Carroll County Department of Public Works asked local artists to turn an average recycling bin into a work of art.

Recycling bins decorated by local artists were displayed in the lobby of the Carroll County Office Building and voted on to celebrate celebrated "America
Recycles Day" on Nov. 15.

The winners of the contest are:

  • First place: Amber Maurer - "Phoenix."
  • Second place: George Maurer – "Pick and Save."
  • Third place: Vicky Strata-Bauer – "Feed me."

"I wanted to do something fun to keep folks aware of our recycling programs in Carroll County," said Maria Myers, Carroll County’s Recycling Manager who headed the project.

The recycling contest required that artists decorate a 65 gallon recycling bin, asking them to be mindful that the carts must still function as a recycling bin and be appropriate for community viewing.

The decorated bins will be donated to schools and can be used as a teaching tool for recycling habits.
