Blue Knights Ride for Armed Forces
The Blue Knights Maryland Chapter IX took part in the annual Purple Heart Ride Sunday.
About 100 motorcyclists took part in a charity ride to Laurel that started at Freedom Park on Sunday.
The Purple Heart Ride, now in its seventh year, was sponsored by the Blue Knights Maryland Chapter IX. The ride benefits the Armed Forces Foundation, which supports wounded soldiers.
In the first six years, the ride has raised more than $50,000 for the foundation. The Blue Knights are encouraged to support a charity, and the chapter chose the wounded soldiers organization, according chapter president Greg Ei. The ride averages between 100 to 200 riders each year.
