Carroll County Farm Museum Covered Bridge Recognized With 'World Guide Number'

The bridge is one of 20 in the state and only four in the county.

The National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges recently assigned the Covered Bridge at the Carroll County Farm Museum an official World Guide Number, according to a county press release.

Pictures, measurements and pertinent information were submitted by Jim Smedley of the Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society of Pennsylvania, so that the bridge could receive this recognition.

The bridge is one of 20 within the state of Maryland and one of four in Carroll County of its kind. Non-authentic covered bridges such as this one are known as Romantic Shelters, built and kept for nostalgic reasons.

The development the farm museum's pedestrian covered bridge was the joint effort of many including Eagle Scout, Jeffrey Krichten who replaced an old uncovered wooden bridge crossing at the pasture creek with new flooring, according to the release.

The iron beams, donated by C.J. Miller, were placed by the Farm Museum maintenance crew. The rafters were donated by Shelter Systems. Several members of the Valley Lions applied the siding and roofing, and then painted the bridge.
