Rare October Snow Hits Carroll County, Kills 3 in Mid-Atlantic and Northeast
Drivers had to deal with wet and icy roads during Saturday's fall snow.
Carroll County saw its fifth October snow fall Saturday since weather records were first kept in the 1870's. The rare storm left more than 950 BGE customers without power as of midnight Saturday.Â
A State of Emergency was declared for the county between noon and 7 p.m. Saturday, causing all Carroll County Public School activities to be canceled, including homecoming dance.Â
The storm was deadly across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic with deaths in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Connecticut.Â

An 84-year-old man in Temple, Pa. was resting in his home Saturday afternoon when a "snow-filled tree" fell on his home, killing him instantly, according to an article by CNN.Â
If Carroll County area received an inch of snow it would be the second snowiest October. On October 30, 1925, the area received 2.5 inches of snow. The last time Eldersburg saw snow in October was in 2009.
