Comment: County Commission Vote Does Not Mean a ‘Hill of Beans’

Readers took their opinions to Eldersburg Patch this week, commenting most on stories about the Carroll County Commissioners and whether Eldersburg has too many gyms.

(Update) Carroll County Commissioner Agenda Feb. 13 through Feb. 19 "Why did the county hire a lobbyist if members of this board are spending so much time away from Carroll County in Annapolis??? This is nuts..." - Judith Smith

Exploring Issues in Eldersburg: Too Many Gyms?I'm very conflicted about Gold's Gym moving into the Carrolltown mall. On the one hand, I welcome more opportunities for Eldersburg residents to get healthier. With the rising obesity rate in this country, if we make gyms more accessible to people it may help to combat the problem. I would much rather have more gyms in Eldersburg than more liquor stores. On the other hand, having a new business moving into the Carrolltown mall means that the likelihood of the mall getting renovated is less.” - Gabrielle Donnald

County Commissioners Announce Positions on Proposed Legislation  “As President Nixon used to say, I want to make myself perfectly clear. The vote by the county commissioners yesterday does not mean a hill of beans. Because of the Commissioner form of government, our delegation can only get local bills enacted into law, that is if the majority of the Legislators give our delegation their vote. With an all Republican Delegation, Carroll County is lucky to get any legislation enacted into law.” - romeo valianti
