Comment: ‘State Should Not… Circumvent My Local Democracy'

Eldersburg Patch readers weigh in on the news of the week.

Readers took their opinions to Eldersburg Patch this week, commenting most on stories about their favorite gyms in Eldersburg, a new alley and in town, and that could hurt education funding.

Freedom Lanes Bowling Alley Opens Its Doors.  "That is awesome... Eldersburg needs that. A great activity for young and old."

Starbucks Drive-Thru Now Open in Eldersburg "I think this location should do well. Very nicely done. One thing they're going to have to fix in the parking though. There is black asphalt curbing that runs down along the front of the building that separates the parking area. This needs to be painted white or with a reflective paint. I almost ran over it. Before I could get out of my car I witnessed a small car run over it. It's quite noticeable that several cars had run over it." Larry A. Derreth

Proposed Legislation Blasted As Devastating to Local Education Funding.  "I would love for someone to explain why this would be a good thing. And I am not arguing, I just do not understand why we should go this route, in the manner it is proposed, other than for politics on a state level. I am also concerned about the state bypassing the local government with the "piggy back tax". I may or may not like my local government. The state should not be trying to circumvent my local democracy."  Matt Gibbons

Readers' Choice: Gyms in Eldersburg and Sykesville.  "Freedom Fitness is where it's at. It's the only gym I've ever loved. I'm addicted. The instructors are supportive, fun & creative. The people are friendly, the overall environment keeps you coming back for more. Zumba, yoga, step etc, all great! I'd give it 5 stars!" Kelly Hildebrand

"I get more bang for my buck at Merritt! I love the quieter women's gym, and there is always an available treadmill for me. The staff is professional, the equipment in excellent condition, and place is clean, all important factors that I look for."  S. Loretta Martin

"Athens is definitely the place to go if you want to see positive results! The trainers are great and teach you a lot! Not to mention it's like a family where everyone is friendly and not scared to offer a helpful tip or to spot. They have fun fitness challenges and really make going to the gym and enjoyable experience!!" Katie
