Elderly Couple Found Dead in Carroll County Home

Police say carbon monoxide could have been a factor.

Carbon monoxide may have been a factor in the death of an elderly couple found in their Carroll County home Saturday night, according to Maryland State Police.

Lewis Keyser, 81, and Betty Keyer, 84, were discovered in the basement of their home in the 1900 block of Lang Road in Hampstead by relatives, according to police.

State Police Troopers discovered carbon monoxide levels in the home 80 times above a safe level coming from an oil-burning furnace. The relatives that came to check on the couple called 911 after discovering haze and black soot inside the home, according to police.
