"There's no flooding on Main Street Sykesville so far," said Sykesville Police administrator Debbie Spittel. "The Carroll County Emergency Management Director says the water level is high at Piney Run, but nothing catastrophic."

There have been no reports of flooding near the county schools either. As of 2:45 p.m. Carey Gaddis, Supervisor of Community and Media Relations for the Carroll County Public School System said that there has been no impact on school or the bus routes at this time although McDaniel College in Westminster has canceled graduate classes scheduled for this evening.

The story is different right down the road in Howard County. The Howard County School System has canceled all evening activities and the 8300 block of Main Street in Ellicott City was evacuated around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon,  with traffic backed up near Frederick Road.

Local Sykesville Main Street businesses are wet from the rain but thankful flooding hasn't hit the area.

"We are here and all is wet but not flooding thankfully," said Jim Robinson, co-founder of Kneebouncers whose offices are located on Main Street Sykesville.

"The Sykesville maintainence guys have done a good job making sure the drains are clear at the low corners so we have not had any flooding today," said Debbie Scheller owner of A Likely Story Bookstore on Main Street Sykesville.

Route 29 in Columbia is currently flooding with traffic slowing down near Columbia Mall.

The National Weather Service urges residents to travel with caution.
