Four Counties Battle New Years Day Fire in Howard County

More than 60 firefighters spend New Years Day fighting a barn fire in Woodbine.

About 60 firefighters from four counties spent New Years Day fighting a blaze in Lisbon that destroyed a barn.

Crews from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services responded to the barn on the 2600 block of Jennings Chapel Road in Woodbine at about 1 p.m. Sunday, according to Battalion Chief Eric Proctor.

When crews arrived, they found that the barn, about 100 feet by 50 feet, was fully engulfed in flames. With the help of firefighters, the family that owns the barn was able to remove horse-drawn carts from a nearby building, according to Kyle Stull, firefighter with the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department.

Livestock had been safely evacuated from the barn before police arrived, Proctor said in a statement.

Firefighters from Carroll, Frederick and Montgomery Counties worked with HCDFRS for more than seven hours to fight the blaze with no injuries to crews, residents or livestock according to Proctor.
