Heat and Air Quality Alerts in Effect for Carroll County June 9

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory in effect from noon to 8 p.m.

With temperatures expected to reach the mid to upper 90's, The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory in effect for Carroll County today from noon to 8 p.m. in addition to an Air Quality Alert. 

According to NOAA, a Heat Advisory means that the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation where heat related illnesses are possible. 

The National Weather Service suggests spending limited time in the sun, drink plenty of fluids and do not leave children or pets in the car for any amount of time.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments and call 9-1-1 at the sign of any heat stroke related symptoms. 

The Maryland Department of the Environment has also issued a code orange air quality alert in effect for Wednesday. The alert calls for air pollution concentrations that could become dangerous for children, the elderly, and people suffering from asthma or heart disease.
