Hurricane Debris Accepted at County Landfills

The Hoods Mill Landfill will offer extended hours through Sept. 3.

In an effort to help residents clean up after Hurricane Irene, the county is extending hours and weight limits at local landfills.

The Hoods Mill Landfill, 7901 Kabik Court in Woodbine will be open daily starting Tuesday, Aug. 30 through Saturday, Sept. 3. The hours of operation are 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Only yard waste and tree branches will be accepted on Tuesday through Friday. There is no charge for Carroll County residents who show their driver’s license as proof of residency.

Commercial businesses must use the Northern Landfill, 1400 Baltimore Boulevard, Westminster, to dispose of wood waste at the current fee of $20 per ton.

The size limitations for wood waste have been temporarily increased. Branches, trunks and clean stumps up to 12 inches in diameter and eight feet in length will be accepted at both Northern Landfill and Hoods Mill Landfill continuing through Saturday, Sept. 10.

On Saturday, Sept. 3, Hoods Mill Landfill will be completely open with full recycling and trash drop-off services. Fees apply for trash disposal.
