Liberty Leos Celebrate Mothers at Local Nursing Home

The students delivered handmade flower bouquets to mothers at Transitions Healthcare in Sykesville.

Students from the Leo Club at Liberty High School spent their Sunday morning honoring local mothers on Mother's Day.

The Liberty Leos, led by Liberty High School sophomore Kelsey Hof, used their creativity and passion for community service to honor close to 75 mothers living at Transitions Health Care in Sykesville.

"I feel great about this project," said Hof. "We made a lot of moms smile today."

The Leos met at Safeway in Eldersburg Sunday morning where they bought 21 dozen flowers and baby's breath.

Safeway donated the wrapping paper for the bouquets and Safeway General Manager John Sotak’s floral team demonstrated to the Leos how to make flower arrangements.

The team used their newly gained skills to assemble the bouquets before heading to Transitions.

The Leos then met with resident mothers individually, presenting them with the flower bouquets and wishing them a Happy Mother’s Day.

"Our club believes that we can and do make a difference right here in our community," said Hof.

When asked what they remembered most about Sunday, one of the Leos replied,
"We were honored today to bring a smile to a retired Marine and mother named Miss Clara Edwards. She was very happy to see us."
