Local Veteran News Reporter, 90-Year-Old E-Book Author to Present Workshop

Roscoe Born will bring his expertise to Eldersburg during a special author workshop.

Roscoe Born, 90, a veteran journalist living a quiet retirement at the in Sykesville, recently started a new career as a fiction writer.

The ambitious writer published his first mystery novel Ebook, In the Prime of Death in June of this year and has been invited by the Carroll County Public Library system to present an author's workshop at the Eldersburg branch at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 17.

Born will talk about his writing methods and how he decided to publish the novel as an Ebook on the Smashwords platform.

Laura Gillen, Fairhaven's librarian, will talk about those trends and why she advised Roscoe to make his work an Ebook. Buzz Baker, Born's tech-savvy colleague who uploaded the manuscript to Smashwords, will answer questions about the computer angles, and his good friend and former co-worker Patricia Fanning will moderate the discussion.
