Local Veterans Honored at Sykesville Book Signing

American Legion Post #223 held a book signing with local author Bill Hall on Nov. 4.

Sykesville author Bill Hall was honored alongside local veterans on Nov. 4 at a book signing held at American Legion Post #223 for "They Gave Blood, Sweat and Tears."

During the evening, Hall read passages from his book which chronicles the stories of 50 veterans from World War II to Iraqi Freedom, most of them from Carroll County.

One of the passages was the opening paragraph to the chapter which tells the story of WWII Combat Veteran and American Legion Post #223 Member, Walter "Pops" Gray.

"Walter Gray woke up west of Berlin in the middle of World War II to the sight of the enemy artillery, three German tanks pointing their guns at him and his fellow troops," reads the passage.
