Most of Sykesville was left in the dark this weekend following strong winds and rain from Hurricane Irene, and as of Monday morning, nothing much has changed.

"Last week they were trying to track Irene, now we're trying to track BGE, where will they be and how fast will they get here," said the Town of Sykesville Facebook page.

The traffic lights at the intersection of Route 32 and Route 70 remain out of power, with police directing traffic.

BGE states that power should be restored by 10:30 p.m. tonight. But for some, that's not soon enough.

"No showers for those of us on well and septic," said Sykesville resident Dawn Whisler Harvatine. "No power equals no water."

"Power is still out on Jennifer Way south of Bunker Hill. It's frustrating to know the power is on 100 feet from my house," said Bruce Miller. "We were taunted by the streetlights last night."

"My father is 85 and lives in the Village House apartments for older folks. They have been out of power since 8:30 p.m. Saturday night," said Pippa Duggan.

and are also without power. Administrators at Century say computers are up and working using a backup generator and that announcements for school openings are "on the way."

Carroll County Public Schools have canceled student orientations scheduled for tonight at Linton Springs Elementary and Hampstead Elementary School due to power outages.
