Non-Profit Profile: Caring Carroll Pairs Volunteers with Elderly

Caring Carroll provides physical and social services to adults in need.

Caring Carroll started providing services in 2005. Its motto is to provide older and disabled adults in Carroll County with assistance in living independently for as long as possible. Patch talked with Program Coordinator Maggie Kunz about the organization and its future.

Patch: How does Caring Carroll accomplish its goals?

Maggie Kunz: We match our adults with volunteers to help with light housekeeping, friendly visits, errands, transportation to appointments, yard work and minor home repairs.

Patch: Why is Caring Carroll unique?

Kunz: Our services are free, and anyone in need can receive services if there is a volunteer available. We do try to prioritize people who have less resources and support.

Patch: What active part does the organization take in the community?

Kunz: We match volunteers and groups with people in need, making connections and building relationships. We provide tangible support to people struggling to remain living at home, but also provide opportunities for social interaction.

Patch: What are some of your personal or favorite memories of Caring Carroll?

Kunz: I loved matching a group of families with a woman in Sykesville who loves kids. She had everyone's name memorized before the first visit. She loves having her house cleaned, but even more I think she loves having kids come over to visit.

Patch: What is your favorite part of the Westminster community?

Kunz: I love the huge network of agencies that work together to help people in need. I also love the Arts Center and Bear Branch that provide great events and classes!

Any future plans or events?

Kunz: We have volunteer trainings regularly. The next three will be at the Westminster Public Library, 50 E Main Street.

Tuesday, July 12, 5:30–6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 13, 10–11 a.m.

Wednesday, August, 31, 10–11 a.m.

We're also collecting recipes for a Caring Carroll cookbook.

We would love to help more people in need in Carroll County, and can always use more volunteers and donations. Volunteering is flexible and rewarding.
