Partnership for a Healthier Carroll County Holds Community Forum

The annual community forum focused on health care reform.

Community members and representatives of public health and health care organizations gathered May 10 for The Partnership for a Healthier Carroll County’s annual community forum, "We’re On Our Way." 

More than 140 people registered for the event at St. John’s Portico in Westminster that focused on health care reform and initiatives to promote good nutrition for children in Carroll County.

Speakers also reviewed The Partnership’s activities during the past year, described the L.E.A.N. Carroll It’s Crunch Time! program, and gave a nutritional guidelines update.

Also covered were statistics from the "Healthy Carroll Vital Signs Dashboard,"which showed Carroll’s progress in reducing motor vehicle deaths, cancer deaths, and the adult obesity rate.

Although, "Dashboard" data indicates that more work is needed to increase the number of older women receiving mammograms and increase the percentage of adults who eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

Outstanding contributors to our community’s health were recognized with special awards, including Imelda Udo, M.D., OB/GYN, who received the Dr. Janet W. Neslen Access to Health Care Award, and Carroll Community College, which received the Worksite Wellness Award.

Dorothy “Dottie” Taylor was presented with the inaugural Karen Feroli Community Champion Award for her work with the Carroll County Children’s Fund.
