Police Charge Sykesville Man With Killing Deer; Meat Donated to Charity

The Maryland Natural Resources Police donate more than 150 pounds of venison to the Nehemiah house and Carroll County Food Sunday.

Two local charities were given more than 150 pounds of deer meat to feed the hungry after a Sykesville man was charged with illegally shooting multiple deer in November of 2010.

William Westbrook Evans III pled guilty in the Carroll County District Court on Feb. 9 for possession of deer during the closed season and failure to check in deer within 24 hours.

Evans received 18 months of unsupervised probation, a $1,000 fine for each violation, with $850 per fine suspended. In addition, his hunting license was suspended for one year.

Sgt. Art Windemuth, Public Information Officer for the Maryland Natural Resources Police said that Evans shot the deer with a rifle under a crop damage permit-- a permit allowed only to shoot antlerless deer causing property damage.

Following the trial, Maryland Natural Resources Police donated the more than 150 pounds of deer meat to the Nehemiah House and Carroll County Food Sunday.
