Original Article 2:15 a.m.

Carroll County continues to see rain and thunderstorms from Tropical Depression Lee as a flash flood warning remains in effect through 2:30 a.m. Thursday, issued by The National Weather Service.

Overnight, more than 2 inches of additional rainfall is possible according to NOAA, with rain in the forecast through Monday afternoon.

Several roads were closed Wednesday as a result of the storm, with all but two reopened. Portions of Kern Road and Unger Road were both still closed as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Warfield Park in Sykesville was closed Wednesday until further notice due to rising water levels at Piney Run Park, according to The Town of Sykesville. Barricades will be placed at the entrance to the path of the park to prevent pedestrian travel.

Main Street Sykesville dodged flooding Wednesday, while other local areas weren't so lucky. Main Street in Ellicott City was flooded Wednesday afternoon, causing the area to be shut down and evacuated.

Howard County Public Schools canceled all evening activities Wednesday evening, while the Carroll County Public School System activities went on as scheduled. McDaniel, on the other hand, canceled all evening graduate classes.

"There's no flooding on Main Street Sykesville so far," said Sykesville Police administrator Debbie Spittel Wednesday afternoon. "The Carroll County Emergency Management Director says the water level is high at Piney Run, but nothing catastrophic."

Local Sykesville Main Street businesses were wet from the rain but thankful flooding hasn't hit the area.

"We are here and all is wet but not flooding thankfully," said Jim Robinson, co-founder of Kneebouncers, whose offices are located on Main Street Sykesville.

"The Sykesville maintainence guys have done a good job making sure the drains are clear at the low corners so we have not had any flooding today," said Debbie Scheller owner of A Likely Story Bookstore on Main Street Sykesville.
