A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for southeastern Carroll County and other parts of Maryland until 4:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Original story:

There is a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Carroll County and parts of Baltimore County until 3:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. NWS also posted a flash flood watch through 8 p.m.

Locations impacted by severe weather include Westminster, Sykesville and Eldersburg.

The severe thunderstorms were detected on a line extending from 5 miles northeast to New Market to Boyds and were moving northeast at 55 miles per hour, according to the statement.

The storms are capable of producing winds in excess of 60 miles per hour.

The flash flood watch extends across several counties including Carroll, Frederick, Harford and Howard Counties.

NWS warns that excessive rainfall could cause creeks and streams to rise quickly out of their banks and could flood low-lying and urban areas.

A tornado watch is also in effect for Carroll County and much of the state Tuesday as storms roll through the area.

“This is a dangerous line of storms,” according to the National Weather Service. “If you are in its path, move indoors to a sturdy building and stay away from windows.”
