Sykesville Fall Festival Scheduled Despite Possible Construction Work

The annual festival is set for Oct. 8.

The fate of Sykesville's biggest marketing event was unknown until this week, due to repair work that needs to be completed on Main Street.

But according to Debbie Scheller, public relations chairperson for the annual event, the festival is too important for Sykesville to cancel.

"There is repair work that needs to be done on Main Street, but nothing has been scheduled and to put off the festival for a 'maybe' will hurt the town," said Scheller.

The Fall Festival is the largest event for the town bringing between 2,000 and 3,000 people to Main Street every year, according to Scheller.

"In today's economy the businesses cannot afford to not have the festival," said Scheller who is also owner of A Likely Story Bookstore on Main Street Sykesville.

If the road repairs begin before the festival, Scheller said that alternate routes and parking lots will be used for some vendor spaces instead of the event taking place primarily on Main Street Sykesville.
