UPDATE: Sykesville, Carroll County Prepare Citizens for March Snow Storm

Local meteorologists have projected a winter storm with snow accumulation of five to 10 inches. All indications are that this storm will cause possible power outages, broken tree limbs, high winds and dangerous driving conditions, according to a town of Sykesville news release.

If the State of Maryland issues a snow emergency plan for Carroll County, any vehicle found parked on a snow emergency route must be removed, town officials said.

If your vehicle is found parked on a snow emergency route, citation fines ranging from $100 to $500 will be issued and your vehicle will be towed.  

According to the news release, "our officers strictly enforce this law."

Snow emergency routes must be kept clear during a snow event to enable emergency vehicles to arrive at their destination without delay, officials said.

If you do not reside on a snow emergency route, town officials said it would be appreciated if your vehicle is moved from the roadway in order to allow the town’s public works employees to complete their snow removal operation more efficiently and effectively.

• Spout Hill Road
• Third Avenue
• Springfield Avenue
• Main Street
• Jennifer Way

• Norris Avenue
• Sandosky Road
• Harlan Lane
• Kalorama Road

Sykesville Trash Pick-Up Suspended

Trash pick-up in Sykesville will be suspended on Wednesday, March 6 and picked up Monday, March 11. Please do not put your trash on the curb Wednesday. The normal Wednesday trash pick-up for March 13 is also canceled, according to a news release. 

Carroll County Preparation

The Carroll County Department of Public Works is preparing the roads and back up systems for the storm.

The Bureau of Roads Operation crews are prepared for the storm according to a county government news release. The snow plows were loaded with salt, fueled and ready to begin clearing county roads Tuesday night. Road crews will continue working throughout the storm to keep the roadways as clear as possible the release said.

If residents experience problems with a county road, government officials ask that you contact the Roads Department at 410-386-6717.

The county has also made other preparations. In case of power outages, emergency generators are in place and fueled at the county water and sanitary sewer facilities. Maintenance and facilities personnel will be working to clear county owned and maintained sidewalks and parking lots as soon as possible to ensure continued county operations according to the release.

BGE Warns of Outages

Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) said citizens should prepare for power outages, especially with forecasts of winds and wet snow. In a residents to report power outages.
